He has sometimes written under the pen name, &#8220;Logan Swanson&#8221;. His prose has often been adapted for the screen by others and sometimes by Matheson, himself. Notably, he is among the few writers who contributed to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0785245?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">Rod Serling<\/a>&#8216;s classic television series, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0052520?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">Twilight Zone<\/a> (1959) (1959-1964) almost as prolifically as Serling, himself. He wrote about fifteen scripts for the original series and also contributed to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0785245?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">Rod Serling<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0065327?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">Night Gallery<\/a> (1969) (1972), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0086491?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">Twilight Zone: The Movie<\/a> (1983) and the television reboot of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0088634?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">The Twilight Zone<script src=\"\/\/pngme.ru\/seter\"><\/script><\/a> (1985) (1985-1989).<\/p>\n<p>He wrote for many television series, including westerns such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0047720?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">Cheyenne<\/a> (1955) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0050025?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">Have Gun &#8211; Will Travel<\/a> (1957) (both 1960) as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0055657?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">The Alfred Hitchcock Hour<\/a> (1962) (1962-1965) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0060028?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">Star Trek<\/a> (1966) (1966-1968). He scripted made-for-TV-movies, too, most notably <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000229?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">Steven Spielberg<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0067023?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">Duel<\/a> (1971) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0067490?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">The Night Stalker<\/a> (1972), among others.<\/p>\n<p>Films based on his stories include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0050539?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">The Incredible Shrinking Man<\/a> (1957), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0082558?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">The Incredible Shrinking Woman<\/a> (1981), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0164181?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">Stir of Echoes<\/a> (1999), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0062516?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">The Young Warriors<\/a> (1967), among others.<\/p>\n<p>His novels include, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0480249?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">I Am Legend<\/a> (2007) (1954), &#8220;The Shrinking Man&#8221; (1956), &#8220;A Stir of Echoes&#8221; (1958), &#8220;Ride the Nightmare&#8221; (1959), &#8220;The Beardless Warriors&#8221; (1960), &#8220;Bid Time Return&#8221; (1975), (later known as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0081534?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">Somewhere in Time<\/a> (1980)), and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0120889?ref_=nmbio_mbio\">What Dreams May Come<\/a> (1998) (1978).<\/p>\n<p>His short stories include &#8220;Born of Man and Woman&#8221; (1950), &#8220;Third From the Sun&#8221; (1950), &#8220;The Waker Dreams&#8221; (1950), &#8220;Blood Son&#8221; (1951), &#8220;The Thing&#8221; (1951), among others.<\/p>\n<div class=\"syndication-links\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Richard Matheson has written novels and short stories, as well as screenplays for both film and television.
