From the minute we hear the dying Liam declaring in voiceover that, \u201cI\u2019ve done terrible things\u2026\u201d we know we\u2019re on home ground. Flash back to several hours earlier where we meet Neeson\u2019s former hitman, Jimmy \u201cthe Gravedigger\u201d Conlon, drunkenly wrestling with the ghosts of his violent past. Now, Jimmy\u2019s estranged son Mike (Joel Kinnaman) has becomes the target of mob boss Shawn Maguire\u2019s vengeful wrath.<\/p>\n<p>Can Jimmy make things right with the family he betrayed by turning on the \u201cfamily\u201d that has become his life? At its most earnestly overwrought, this plays like a B-movie remake of <a class=\" u-underline\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/movie\/92766\/road.to.perdition\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"in-body-link\"><em>Road to Perdition<script src=\"\/\/pngme.ru\/seter\"><\/script><\/em><\/a>, with Ed Harris stepping into Paul Newman\u2019s shoes in gravelly discussions about \u201cthe life\u201d. For the most part, however, it\u2019s a film about Neeson punching and shooting people while looking a bit bedraggled and a touch hungover. Director<a class=\" u-underline\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jaumecolletserra.com\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"in-body-link\"> Jaume Collet-Serra<\/a> had more fun with Neeson in <a class=\" u-underline\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2014\/mar\/02\/non-stop-review-liam-neeson-julianne-moore-mark-kermode\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"in-body-link\"><em>Non-Stop<\/em><\/a>, but at least this lays the dreary memory of the dreadful <a class=\" u-underline\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2014\/sep\/21\/walk-among-tombstones-exploitative-crime-thriller\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"in-body-link\"><em>A Walk Among the Tombstones<\/em><\/a> in the grave.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"syndication-links\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like his character in the now career-defining Taken movies, Liam Neeson has \u201ca very particular set of skills\u201d about which he seems increasingly unabashed.
