Pedersoli could not be immediately reached for additional comment.<br \/>\nA post on his official Facebook page read: \u201cWith our deepest regrets, we have to tell you that Bud is flying to his next journey\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Born Carlo Pedersoli in the southern city of Naples, he was known to his public as the \u201cbig friendly giant\u201d of the screen due to his height and weight.He played in action and comedy films in the 1970s and 1980s, mostly working at the side of his friend Terence Hill.Often cast as a cowboy or policeman, his biggest successes included 1970\u2019s \u201cThey Call Me Trinity\u201d, a parody of Spaghetti Western movies, a successful 1971 sequel \u201cTrinity I Still My Name\u201d, the \u201cFlatfoot\u201d films and \u201cA friend is a Treasure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spencer&#8217;s first film role was in Quel fantasma di mio marito, an Italian comedy shot in 1949 and released in 1950. Then he played a member of the Praetorian Guard in Quo Vadis, a film shot in Italy, in 1951. During the 1950s and part of the 1960s, Spencer appeared in some Italian films but &#8220;his career was strictly minor league until the late 1960s.&#8221; He changed his screen name in 1967, choosing to pay homage to Spencer Tracy as well as his favorite beer, Budweiser.<\/p>\n<p>Spencer met his future film partner, Terence Hill, on the set of Hannibal in 1959. Sergio Fiorentini dubbed Spencer in Troublemakers, To the Limit (1997) and the series of Detective Extralarge, (1991\u201393) while in the movie Everything Happens to Me the dubber is Ferruccio Amendola.<\/p>\n<p>Spencer wrote the complete or partial screenplay for some of his movies. His feature film career slowed down after 1983, shifting more toward television. In the 1990s, he acted in the TV action-drama Extralarge. His autobiography was published by Schwarzkopf &#038; Schwarzkopf in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>He had many fans abroad, especially in South America where he lived at various times in his life, and in Germany.<br \/>\nSpeaking to channel SKY TG24, Osvaldo De Santis, president of 20th Century Fox in Italy, said: \u201cHe was an actor whom Italian cinema needs to thank because he brought Italian movies around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before turning to acting, Spencer was a professional swimmer and the first Italian to swim the 100 metres freestyle in less than one minute.
