The tense thriller THE ICE CREAM TRUCK has been acquired by Uncork\u2019d Entertainment.<\/p>\n

EFM: Home Entertainment and Theatrical Film Distributor Uncork’d Entertainment has acquired worldwide rights to Megan Freels Johnston\u2019s sophomore feature The Ice Cream Truck.<\/p>\n

Uncork’d President Keith Leopard made the deal with the filmmaker, who made her debut on 2014\u2019s Rebound, ahead of the European Film Market in Berlin this week.<\/p>\n

The provocative psychological thriller stars Deanna Russo (Being Human, Gossip Girl) as Mary, who moves back to her suburban hometown after her husband gets relocated for work.\u00a0 As her family ties up loose ends back home, she moves into their new house alone. And although the move makes Mary nostalgic for her youth, there\u2019s something very sinister about that Ice Cream Truck that patrols her suburb.\u00a0 Killing.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cMegan Freels Johnston has made a very scary but also very smart film\u201d, says Uncork\u2019d President Keith Leopard. \u201cThe film also offers us a unique and refreshing take on a genre dominated largely by men\u201d.<\/p>\n

Says writer-director Megan Freels Johnston : “We are so excited to be working with Uncork’d Entertainment on this film whose niche is a mix of Art House and Horror Films, since The Ice Cream Truck strongly represents both of those genres.”<\/p>\n

Storytelling is very much in Freels Johnston\u2019s DNA.\u00a0 The granddaughter of legendary crime writer Elmore Leonard, The Ice Cream Truck screenplay was a semi-finalist in the Circus Road Screenplay competition.<\/p>\n

As a producer developing material for over a decade, Freels Johnston worked on adaptations of her grandfather’s work and produced Sparks, the directorial debut of Joseph Gordon-Levitt.\u00a0 After completing a project for the USA Network, she decided to follow her passion and write and direct her own material. Her first film, 2014\u2019s micro budget thriller Rebound, developed a cult following on VOD, was called, \u201cAlmost David Lynchian in its strangeness\u201d by Film Threat and Rue Morgue said, the film “(was) worth watching to the end for the unnervingly realistic twist ending.”<\/p>\n

The Ice Cream Truck also stars John Redlinger (Thirst, Banshee), Emil Johnsen (Isolerad), Hilary Barraford (Go For Sisters), Jeff Daniel Phillips (31) and Lisa Ann Walter (War of the Worlds).<\/p>\n
