{"id":21953,"date":"2017-03-17T05:21:48","date_gmt":"2017-03-17T11:21:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/?p=21953"},"modified":"2017-03-17T12:50:14","modified_gmt":"2017-03-17T18:50:14","slug":"rogue-warrior-robot-fighter-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/?p=21953","title":{"rendered":"ROGUE WARRIOR: ROBOT FIGHTER &#8211; Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Written By: Keith Makenas<\/p>\n<p>Sci-fi fans have been down the machines attacking mankind before, but ROGUE WARRIOR: ROBOT FIGHTER has a story and visual impact on the audience that is distinctive from most other films of this type.\u00a0\u00a0 ROGUE WARRIOR will have you engrossed from the opening scene to the end credits and have you cheering on and empathizing with the main character Sienna.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21959\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/roguewarriorNewPoster.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"547\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/roguewarriorNewPoster.jpeg 547w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/roguewarriorNewPoster-205x300.jpeg 205w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 547px) 100vw, 547px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>ROGUE WARRIOR: ROBOT FIGHTER is a science fiction film set in the future depicting the overthrow of humanity by artificial intelligence on Earth and other worlds.\u00a0 The film stars Tracey Birdsall (Who\u2019s Jenna, Dawn of the Crescent Moon), William Kircher (The Hobbit), Daz Crawford (\u201cAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.\u201d), Stephen Manley (Star Trek III), Tim McGrath (Super Hybrid, 10 Things I Hate About Life), Ashley Park (Terror Tales, Around The Bed), Livvy Stubenrauch(The Labyrinth, Frozen), and Marilyn Ghiggliotti (Clerks). The film has won endless awards including Best Actress (Tracey Birdsall), Best Director (Neil Johnson), Sound Design (Vic Kaspar, Dirk Kloiber) and the Unique Vision award (Neil Johnson).<\/p>\n<p>ROGUE WARRIOR provides stunning scenery and effects, but even better it tells an excellent and structurally sound story that is character driven.\u00a0 In the opening scene, machines are trying to take over mankind in an intense and exciting battle.\u00a0 After the war and a majority of civilization is wiped out.\u00a0 We then meet Sienna (Tracey Birdsall) and learn that her goal is to destroy the scourge and stop the machines.\u00a0 Throughout the film the audience is highly entertained with Sienna\u2019s combat expertise and she can kick some serious butt.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21958\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/roguewarrior2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/roguewarrior2.jpg 640w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/roguewarrior2-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The action alone keeps the audience entertained, but the story of Sienna is the most intriguing of the film.\u00a0 Sienna\u2019s character develops as she learns a lot about herself and some is very difficult for her to grasp which intensifies and boosts the momentum of the story. \u00a0The more she discovers about herself, the more she needs to know, but she never loses focus of her main goal to save mankind.<\/p>\n<p>Birdsall and Writer\/Director Neil Johnson have worked together multiple times and they continue to as they recently wrapped up principal photography for their upcoming film THE TIME WAR.\u00a0 ROGUE WARRIOR will always have a special place in their heart as they both pushed their mental, physical, and creative limits to make the film.\u00a0 <em>&#8220;Rogue Warrior was an extreme vision for Director Neil Johnson &#8211; one that I was happy to delve into with my heart and soul,<\/em>\u201d tells Birdsall. \u00a0\u201c<em>When a director, such as Neil, trusts you with such a rich and multi-faceted character, you have no choice but to do everything in your power to impress. Unfortunately, it\u2019s gut-wrenching work that not only takes endless hours and months preparing for &#8211; but also endless months of healing from both physically and emotionally.\u00a0 I told him \u201cI would do it all over again tomorrow in a heartbeat!\u201d and thus he pushed me to even more treacherous character zones in the newly wrapped The Time War. It\u2019s amazing the toll these projects take on an actor &#8211; but it\u2019s even more amazing to have a director of this caliber put his faith in you. As an actor, we live for this. As an actor, this is the stuff our dreams were made of.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21965\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/neil-johnson-683x1024-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/neil-johnson-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/neil-johnson-683x1024-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Written and Directed by Neil Johnson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Director Neil Johnson\u2019s artistic eye behind the lens created a rugged and extreme, yet breathtaking world in ROGUE WARRIOR that\u2019s a visual treat for the audience. The scenery is spectacular and all the locations gave a real sense of a desolate post apocalypse land.\u00a0 Johnson uses his camera, drones, and a helicopter to capture all aspects of the settings to enhance the mood and tone of the film.\u00a0 It\u2019s obvious that Johnson put an extreme amount of detail into each scene.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson also wrote the screenplay which was very well written as he kept the story moving forward and gave the characters plenty of motivation.\u00a0 There are ideally timed setbacks to make Sienna even more determined.\u00a0 The screenplay appropriately shows what is going on and doesn\u2019t rely on the characters to tell the entire story.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21967\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/rogue-warrior-robot-fighter-action-films-festival-785x412.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"785\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/rogue-warrior-robot-fighter-action-films-festival-785x412.jpg 785w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/rogue-warrior-robot-fighter-action-films-festival-300x158.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/rogue-warrior-robot-fighter-action-films-festival-768x403.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/rogue-warrior-robot-fighter-action-films-festival.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 785px) 100vw, 785px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With the intensity high through a lot of the film it\u2019s essential that there is comical relief and the film provides the necessary amount at the right moments. As one example after a dangerous scene things settle down and Sienna gently caresses Skullcrusher\u2019s face when she walks past him and in the same stride aggressively smacks Blister in the back of the head. \u00a0\u00a0Other comedy is delivered through sarcastic comments:<br \/>\n\u201cYour boyfriend is in captivity,\u201d \u201cI thought he was just blowing me off\u201d<br \/>\nWatch for the \u201cThat\u2019s what she said\u201d moment when talking about guns.<br \/>\nBlister gets injured, \u201cI feel like I\u2019ve been fisted by a football team\u201d<br \/>\nSienna drops Hoagland the no joking around monotonous robot and he cries out, \u201cSienna what the f__k?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With a cast of talented actors combined with the meticulous direction of Neil Johnson, the acting in ROGUE WARRIOR is top notch and the entire cast deserves credit for their hard work and dedication.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21962\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Tracey-Birdsall-Robot-Fighter-1024x576-785x442.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"785\" height=\"442\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Tracey-Birdsall-Robot-Fighter-1024x576-785x442.jpeg 785w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Tracey-Birdsall-Robot-Fighter-1024x576-300x169.jpeg 300w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Tracey-Birdsall-Robot-Fighter-1024x576-768x432.jpeg 768w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Tracey-Birdsall-Robot-Fighter-1024x576.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 785px) 100vw, 785px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tracey Birdsall<\/strong> &#8211; Sienna<\/p>\n<p>Sienna is a very complex character that required an actress that is physically capable, one that comes across as the tough woman, but yet be able to appear compassionate, and to make the audience laugh delivering comical dialogue, an extremely challenging role that Birdsall aced with her award winning performance.Even her movements from her gun\u2019s kickback arestellar. \u00a0Neil Johnson couldn\u2019t have found a better actress for the role of Sienna, <em>\u201cThere is a reason why she is the lead actor of the biggest film of my career. As a director of over a quarter of a century and having worked with thousands of actors, I have never encountered anyone so facilitating and driven as Tracey.\u00a0 When I pushed, she gave.\u00a0 When I thought she could take no more, she gave more than any normal human being could give,\u201d <\/em>shared Johnson.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21960\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/stephen-kircher-785x393.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"785\" height=\"393\" (max-width: 785px) 100vw, 785px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephen Manley<\/strong> \u2013 Ralston<\/p>\n<p>Coming across as the good guy, Ralston isn\u2019t exactly the person you think he is and you don\u2019t know if you should like or dislike him.\u00a0 Manley plays that perplexed role perfectly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>William Kircher<\/strong> \u2013 Dr. Johnson<\/p>\n<p>Kircher\u2019s vast experience shines in the film.\u00a0 Dr. Johnson looks like can be an evil scientist and Kircher knows how to act good and bad.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21961\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/timmcgrath-785x442.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"785\" height=\"442\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/timmcgrath-785x442.jpeg 785w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/timmcgrath-300x169.jpeg 300w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/timmcgrath-768x432.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 785px) 100vw, 785px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tim McGrath<\/strong> \u2013 Blister<\/p>\n<p>Blister is the fun character that\u2019s ideally played by McGrath.\u00a0 He\u2019s basically Sienna\u2019s sidekick and provides a majority of the comical relief, but don\u2019t let him fool you, he can be a sneaky little guy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ashley Park<\/strong> \u2013 Rhianna<\/p>\n<p>Park plays the role of a pleasure bot as she provides some interesting information and fun 100vw, 785px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Daz Crawford<\/strong> \u2013 Skullcrusher<\/p>\n<p>Crawford played the role of Skullcrusher.\u00a0 Casting couldn\u2019t have found a better person for this role.\u00a0\u00a0 He is a total badass, but also the type of guy you can belly up at the bar and have a drink with.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21956\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/livvy-785x442.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"785\" height=\"442\" 100vw, 785px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Livvy Stubenrauch<\/strong> \u2013 Annika<\/p>\n<p>Livvy is a child actress that you need to keep an eye on.\u00a0\u00a0 Her playful sweet voice is the young Anna in the movie Frozen, however in ROGUE WARRIOR when you see her with a gun in her hand you\u2019ll see how versatile of an actress she already is.\u00a0 Her role is a smaller one, but it\u2019s a big part in the film.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-21957\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/marilyn.jpg\" http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/marilyn-300x151.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Marilyn Ghiggliotti <\/strong>\u2013 Xarsis<\/p>\n<p>Xarsis delivers some important insight and information to the character developments and Ghiggliotti does a good job doing so in her scenes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SOUNDTRACK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The film\u2019s visuals, actions and drama all were accentuated by the inspiring soundtrack provided by Alex Staropoli.\u00a0 He brought his powerful metal style to the film during intense battle scenes and his moving music during the dramatic moments.\u00a0 Alex Staropoli is the keyboard player, composer, leader and co-founder of the Italian symphonic power metal band Rhapsody of Fire. He provides fascinating information about how he got involved with ROGUE WARRIOR and how he approached composing the music.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Neil Johnson contacted me to talk about this new movie he was doing,\u201d<\/em> tells Staropoli.\u00a0 \u201c<em>He expressed immediately the need to have some \u2018action\u2019 film music, but also a lot of melodic parts to better describe and underline the story, the characters, and scenes. Neil\u2019s vision intrigued me. When he sent me the first reel to work on I had written some ideas already. In simple words, to sync music to a movie it\u2019s an experience that changed my life. It was the very first time, but it felt like I\u2019ve been doing it for years. When I compose for my band &#8216;Rhapsody Of Fire\u2019 I often picture scenes in my head to get inspired, I love to sync imagination with actual music. But to create music on actual footage it\u2019s a really different and overall a really exciting story. You know, I could finally write and arrange music that it would not be covered with heavy drums, bass or guitars later on!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-21970\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IMG_7240-785x482.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"785\" height=\"482\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IMG_7240-785x482.jpg 785w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IMG_7240-300x184.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IMG_7240-768x472.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 785px) 100vw, 785px\" \/><br \/>\n<em>\u201cMusic would remain exposed, clear and easy to listen. For Rogue Warrior, besides creating orchestral parts, I also choose to write very simple parts using solo instruments. I must say I was kind of lucky to have a few months to write the entire soundtrack and this allowed me to experiment a lot, for the compositions, the arrangements and also for the engineering aspects.
