Greenfield’s only movie theater is expected to receive a favorable recommendation to extend its current lease with Greenfield Highlands through July 1, 2014, years after it was expected to be razed for redevelopment.
\nAt Tuesday’s Planning Commission meeting, Greenfield’s only movie theater is expected to receive a favorable recommendation to extend its current lease with Greenfield Highlands through July 1, 2014, years after it was expected to be razed for redevelopment.<\/p>\n

The city’s Common Council would have to give final approval of the lease extension at a meeting June 19.<\/p>\n

The razing could happen before the July 2014 lease expires if the theater or developer gives 120 days notice and terminates the lease.<\/p>\n

The Greenfield Highlands project, part of a 47-acre tax incremental financing district along Highway 100, was originally approved in 2006 and was slated to include retail locations, single-family homes and condominiums, according to Greenfield NOW.<\/p>\n

The theater was to make way for new development \u2014 and eventually it likely will \u2014 but as the economy slowed, Budget Cinemas, a second-run theater, has remained open. Last year, the Greenfield Highlands Health Center, operated by Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin opened just north of the cinema.
