LLOYD KAUFMAN<\/a> is to cult movies what Alpo <\/a>is to dog food. He’s a recognized, celebrated brand name boasting a tried-and-true tradition you don’t mess with, reliable and undeniable. His underground film dynasty Troma Entertainment <\/a>revolutionized the indie market in the ’80s and ’90s with tantalizing titles like The Toxic Avenger<\/a>, Surf Nazis Must Die<\/a>,<\/em> and Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, <\/em><\/a>and his hit factory continues to smoke ‘n’ grind in the 21st Century with exciting, eccentric cinema like the fine feathered phenom Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead <\/em><\/a>and the recent Australian horror hit The Demons Among Us,<\/em><\/a> ready to invade the US courtesy of Monogram Releasing<\/a>. Here is a brief Q&A with this sweetly demented legend whom everyone affectionately (and wishfully) refers to as “Uncle Lloyd”:<\/p>\n

Will the Thrill<\/em><\/a>: How did you become associated with the Australian horror flick The Demons Among Us<\/em><\/a>, and what appeals most to you about it?<\/p>\n

LK: <\/em>I was in Australia at the Perth Film Festival<\/a> where they were holding a Troma Tribute when I first saw Demons Among Us<\/em>.\u00a0 It immediately caught my attention because it\u2019s a wonderful satire on the media and is expertly made (by a first-time filmmaker no less!).\u00a0 Needless to say, after its screening, we got in touch with filmmaker Stuart Simpson<\/a>, fluids were exchanged and we made them an offer they couldn\u2019t refuse (or cure with over-the-counter antibiotics).<\/p>\n

Thrill:<\/em> How would you say Demons<\/em> differs in tone and content from original Troma flicks? Was this a conscious step in a new direction?
