The Austin School of Film has announced a new, free summer screening series scheduled to start this Saturday night. “Pesadillas Calidas: Horror Films from Mexico” is set to feature six films every other Saturday night from June through August.<\/p>\n
The outdoor series — programmed and presented by Sarah Cook — kicks off with 1968’s “Even the Wind is Afraid” (“Hasta el Viento Tiene Miedo”), Carlos Enrique Taboada’s film about a ghost haunting an all-girls’ college, which was remade in 2007. Taboada’s 1984 film, “Poison for the Fairies” (“Veneno Para Las Hadas”) will be screened later in August.<\/p>\n
Another series highlight is a midnight screening of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s psychedelic “Santa Sangre.” The cult 1989 thriller — cowritten by Jodorowsky, Claudio Argento and Roberto Leoni — tells the nonlinear story of a young man born into a rather dysfunctional circus family.<\/p>\n
All of the films, except for “Santa Sangre,” begin at 9 p.m., and the schedule is as follows:<\/p>\n
June 8th: “Hasta el Viento Tiene Miedo” (“Even the Wind Was Afraid”)
\nJune 22nd: “Cementerio del Terror” (“The Cemetery of Terror”)
\nJuly 13th: “Santa Sangre” (“Holy Blood”)
\nJuly 27th: “Terror y Encajes Negros” (“Terror & Black Lace”)
\nAugust 10th: “Santo vs. Las Mujeres Vampiro” (“Samson vs. the Vampire Women”)
\nAugust 24th: “Veneno Para Las Hadas” (“Poison for the Fairies”)<\/p>\n
All of the films will be presented in Spanish, with English subtitles. Bring your own blanket or lawn chair; there will be beverages for sale onsite.<\/p>\n
