On Friday, Sept. 6, join DocUtah for a very special late-night event. The fun begins at 9:30 p.m. in Eccles Fine Arts Center on the Dixie State University campus. Festivities will start off with \u201cThe Guerilla Commercial Showcase.\u201d A handful of local filmmakers were given 72 hours to put together 60-second commercials. Come see what these talented individuals put together and get in on the action by voting for your favorite. <\/p>\n
Filmmakers wishing to take part in our upcoming \u201cHorror-Fest Edition of the Guerilla Filmmaking Challenge\u201d will have an opportunity to sign up for an Early Bird Special (a discounted submission fee and an extra week to film your project) at this exclusive DocUtah event.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Guerilla Commercial Showcase\u201d will be followed by a screening of \u201cMaking Waste\u201d (30 minutes). This gem of a documentary from directors Stan Arthur and Scott Reus delves into the life of Tom Thompson\u2014an advertising guru who left his marketing job behind to set out to make a feature length sci-fi B-movie called \u201cWaste of Space.\u201d Everything that could go wrong does go wrong on his way to realizing his filmmaking dream. The affectionate \u201cMaking Waste\u201d is in the grand tradition of documentaries like \u201cLost in La Mancha\u201d and \u201cAmerican Movie\u201d with a dash of \u201cEd Wood\u201d thrown in for good measure. \u201cMaking Waste\u201d will be followed by the midnight world premiere of Tom Thompson\u2019s \u201cWaste of Space.\u201d In this goofy sci-fi adventure, the captain of a cargo ship and his team of misfits must come together to prevent an intergalactic incident. That\u2019s right, folks! Thompson realized his dream. For better or for worse, he made the impossible possible. Now, we all have an opportunity to experience Thompson\u2019s wild ride the way it was meant to be experienced: on the big screen!! Tom Thompson, Stan Arthur and Scott Reus will be on hand with special guests and a handful of surprises. They\u2019ll also be judging \u201cThe Guerilla Commercial Showcase.\u201d<\/p>\n
DocUtah\u2019s first midnight movie event promises to be the stuff dreams are made of! Be sure to come on out and see what all the fuss is about. Again, this special DocUtah event will begin at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 in the Eccles Fine Arts Center on the Dixie State University campus. Tickets are only $5. Students are free.
