Good news for Sony too, since the studio has already started to work on an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/screenrant.com\/tag\/the-equalizer-2\/\"><strong><em>Equalizer 2<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, in response to strong test screening responses to the first installment. In addition, MGM is making a\u00a0bid to get Fuqua to helm the studio\u2019s slow-moving\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/screenrant.com\/tag\/the-magnificent-seven\/\"><strong><em>The Magnificent Seven<\/em><\/strong><\/a> remake \u2013 a project that began showing\u00a0new signs of life in late 2013, after\u00a0having looked dead in the water for nearly a year before then.<\/p>\n<p><em>Equalizer 2<\/em> is <a href=\"http:\/\/screenrant.com\/equalizer-movie-reboot-sequel-update\/\">currently being penned<\/a>\u00a0by <em>Equalizer<\/em> screenwriter Richard Wenk, who also worked on the scripts for the<em>\u00a0Mechanic<\/em> remake and <em>The Expendables 2<\/em>. However, much like Fuqua directed\u00a0last year\u2019s throwback action flick <em>Olympus Has Fallen<\/em> only to pass on helming the\u00a0sequel \u2013 next year\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/screenrant.com\/tag\/london-has-fallen\/\"><em>London Has Fallen<\/em><\/a>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0it\u2019s possible that the filmmaker will take steps to\u00a0avoid being tied down to the potential <em>Equalizer<\/em> franchise. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deadline.com\/2014\/05\/antoine-fuqua-attached-to-narco-sub\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Deadline<\/em><\/a> has indirectly suggested as much, with a separate report that asserts that Fox has already attached Fuqua to <em>Narco Sub<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-456640 size-full\" style=\"display: inline;\" title=\"Equalizer Director Antoine Fuqua Offered Magnificent Seven and Narco Sub\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.screenrant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/antoine-fuqua-narco-sub-magnificent-seven.jpg\" alt=\"antoine fuqua narco sub magnificent seven Equalizer Director Antoine Fuqua Offered Magnificent Seven and Narco Sub\" width=\"620\" height=\"320\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <em>Narco Sub<\/em> script written by David Guggenheim (<a href=\"http:\/\/screenrant.com\/tag\/safe-house\/\"><em>Safe House<\/em><\/a>) revolves around a <em>\u201cdisgraced American naval officer [forced] to pilot a submarine carrying a huge shipment of cocaine\u201d<\/em> from South America to the United States. It reads as being the sort of B-movie with relevant sociopolitical overtones, that lies in Fuqua\u2019s wheelhouse as a director; for now, the project is up for grabs, as the previously-rumored director, Doug Liman (<em>Edge of Tomorrow<\/em>) has since moved on to make <a href=\"http:\/\/screenrant.com\/tag\/splinter-cell\/\"><em>Splinter Cell<\/em><\/a> instead.<\/p>\n<p>Then again, Fuqua has tried his hand at different genres before \u2013 like when he directed the 2004 <em>King Arthur<\/em> (for better or worse) \u2013 and he might also prefer to do that in this case, by skipping on <em>Narco Sub<\/em>\u00a0to go call the\u00a0shots on the western-geared\u00a0<em>Magnificent Seven<\/em>, instead. The developing remake of the 1960 film about seven gunslingers who defend a Mexican village \u2013 an Americanized take on Akira Kurosawa\u2019s 1954 masterpiece, <em>Seven Samurai<\/em> \u2013 has a script written by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/screenrant.com\/tag\/true-detective\/\"><em>True Detectives<\/em><\/a> creator Nic Pizzolatto, with revisions from John Lee Hancock (director of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/screenrant.com\/tag\/saving-mr-banks\/\"><em>Saving Mr. Banks<\/em><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-404980\" style=\"display: block;\" title=\"Equalizer Director Antoine Fuqua Offered Magnificent Seven and Narco Sub\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.screenrant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/mag7.jpg\" alt=\"mag7 Equalizer Director Antoine Fuqua Offered Magnificent Seven and Narco Sub\" width=\"620\" height=\"320\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Magnificent Seven<\/em> was, for a while, being envisioned as a Tom Cruise vehicle, but <a href=\"http:\/\/screenrant.com\/magnificent-seven-remake-cast-no-tom-cruise\/\">that is no longer the case<\/a>; according to <em>THR<\/em>, Brad Pitt is the top pick among the other fittingly big-name stars currently being eyed to portray the eponymous cowboy pack. That would be in keeping not just with the casting for the original movie \u2013 featuring such names as Yul Brynner and Steven McQueen among its ranks \u2013 but also the longtime rumors about the present-day celebrities who\u2019ve been <a href=\"http:\/\/screenrant.com\/magnificent-seven-remake-cast-cruise-costner-damon-freeman-niall-178621\/\">eyed for the remake<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fuqua could well be tempted to take on the intimidating job of remaking <em>Magnificent Seven<\/em> \u2013 a film generally regarded to have achieved \u201cclassic\u201d status \u2013 but, seeing how he only just finished\u00a0rebooting <em>The Equalizer<\/em>, the director might prefer something a <em>bit<\/em> more original (a la <em>Narco Sub<\/em>), instead. First, though, he\u2019s going to direct the boxing drama <em>Southpaw<\/em>, which looks to boast a rather promising cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, and possibly Oscar-winners Lupita Nyong\u2019o and Forest Whitaker.<\/p>\n<p>Let us know which of these developing projects \u2013 <em>Equalizer 2<\/em>, <em>Narco Sub<\/em>, and <em>The Magnificent Seven<\/em> \u2013 sounds the most intriguing and\/or that you\u2019re most interested in seeing Fuqua direct next, in the comments section of this article.<\/p>\n<p>__________________________________________________<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Equalizer<\/em><\/strong> opens in U.S. theaters on September 26th, 2014.
