{"id":2097,"date":"2012-03-26T20:13:20","date_gmt":"2012-03-27T02:13:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/?p=2097"},"modified":"2012-03-26T20:13:20","modified_gmt":"2012-03-27T02:13:20","slug":"beverly-garland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/?p=2097","title":{"rendered":"Beverly Garland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/?attachment_id=2098\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2098\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Beverly_Garland_1203558c.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Beverly_Garland_1203558c\" width=\"530\" height=\"388\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2098\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nBeverly Garland, the B-movie actress who starred in 1950s low-budget hits like \u201cSwamp Women\u201d and \u201cNot of This Earth\u201d and went on to play Fred MacMurray\u2019s second wife on the CBS television series \u201cMy Three Sons,\u201d Ms. Garland made her film debut in the 1950 noir classic \u201cD.O.A.,\u201d beginning a career that lasted more than 50 years and included some 40 movies and dozens of television shows.<\/p>\n<p>She gained something of a cult status for playing tough, hard women in pictures like \u201cThe Alligator People\u201d (1959) and Roger Corman films like \u201cGunslinger\u201d (1956), \u201cIt Conquered the World\u201d (1956) and \u201cNaked Paradise\u201d (1957).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never considered myself very much of a passive kind of actress,\u201d she said in a 1985 interview with Fangoria magazine. \u201cI was never very comfortable in love scenes, never comfortable playing a sweet, lovable lady.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Garland ventured into situation comedies in 1964, playing Bing Crosby\u2019s wife on \u201cThe Bing Crosby Show.\u201d Late in the decade she was cast as MacMurray\u2019s bride. Until then his character had been a widower. She remained with the series until it went off the air in 1972.<\/p>\n<p>Her many other television credits include episodes of \u201cMary Hartman, Mary Hartman,\u201d \u201cRemington Steele,\u201d \u201cScarecrow and Mrs. King,\u201d \u201cLois &#038; Clark: The New Adventures of Superman\u201d and \u201c7th Heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beverly Fessenden was born in Santa Cruz, Calif., in 1926 and grew up in Glendale, Calif. She married the actor Richard Garland, and they were divorced in 1953 after less than four years.<\/p>\n<p>In 1960, she married Fillmore Crank, a real estate developer, and the couple built a Mission-style hotel in North Hollywood, now called Beverly Garland\u2019s Holiday Inn.
