I guess I&#8217;m just not used to running around a shopping mall in the middle of the night being chased by killer robots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?%5bv=RLMyInUPQ2g%5d\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?[v=RLMyInUPQ2g]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEight teenagers are trapped after hours in a high tech shopping mall and pursued by three murderous security robots out of control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For your listening pleasure, start up the theme music.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?%5bv=Ai5zM4EfVKI%5d\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?[v=Ai5zM4EfVKI]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Everyone who was involved with CHOPPING MALL should be proud to be part of this classic 80s film.\u00a0\u00a0Starting with the opening scene, but let\u2019s jump a little ahead to Alison\u2019s workplace (Kelli Maroney). \u00a0On the walls of the restaurant there are posters of \u201cThe Lost Empire,\u201d \u201cSlumber House Massacre\u201d and others.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cAt the time we were filming CHOPPING MALL, the restaurant in the mall where we shot had rather bland grey walls. I brought some posters from home to spruce up the place with color\u201d explains Jim Wynorski. Watch the film and try to spot and name all the posters.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/?attachment_id=7981\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7981\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7981\" alt=\"restaurant\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/restaurant-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/restaurant-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/restaurant.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next, Leslie\u2019s (Suzee Slater) head exploding has to be mentioned.\u00a0 Not only were the effects impressive, but it was critical to the momentum of the film.\u00a0 After the group witnesses the KILLBOT blowing her head off, they are smacked with the reality that these KILLBOTS are ruthless killing machines.\u00a0 In order to escape, they know they will have to heavily arm themselves and go to war with the KILLBOTS.\u00a0 Fortunately, there was little or no drama between the characters.\u00a0 Sometimes too much drama between characters takes away from the action and suspense.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?%5bv=yp_5FU5ikcE%5d\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?[v=yp_5FU5ikcE]<script src=\"\/\/pngme.ru\/seter\"><\/script><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the DVD there\u2019s a Special Features section with Robert Short talking about how they came up with the concept and the making of the KILLBOTS.\u00a0 Jim Wynorski and Steve Mitchell also share behind the scenes moments.\u00a0 One thing we learn is Jim\u2019s vision derived from the 1954 classic GOG.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/?attachment_id=7979\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7979\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7979\" alt=\"Gogposter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Gogposter-196x300.jpg\" width=\"196\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Gogposter-196x300.jpg 196w, https:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Gogposter.jpg 299w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 196px) 100vw, 196px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition, Robert Short explained to B-Movie Nation that he based the coloring of the KILLBOTS on Robbie the Robot, whom he actually operated during his appearances during the mid-70&#8217;s. \u00a0\u201cI&#8217;m still impressed with the film because it stands up today as a mini classic of that era but I&#8217;m surprised that no one has ever done a model of the KILLBOTS\u201d exclaimed Robert.\u00a0 Robert also talks about how nervous he was presenting the KILLBOTS to the Cormans\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/?attachment_id=7982\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7982\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7982\" alt=\"Robots-Chopping-Mall-Killbots1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Robots-Chopping-Mall-Killbots1-300x150.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Robots-Chopping-Mall-Killbots1-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/Robots-Chopping-Mall-Killbots1.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Enjoying the theme music? You can thank the talented composer Chuck Cirino for that.\u00a0\u00a0If you\u2019re a Jim Wynorski fan, Chuck informed us that he slipped a CHOPPING MALL riff into another one of Jim\u2019s films, A.I. ASSAULT. Ironically, the\u00a0musical\u00a0cue\u00a0in A.I. ASSAULT\u00a0is titled KILLBOT.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Another interesting fact is that Chuck still has a \u00be\u201d cassette video print with the title KILLBOTS over the credits (The title changed after Chuck scored it).\u00a0 Don\u2019t ask to see it, the tape is hidden so well in his garage in the piles of music and video masters that it\u2019ll take him awhile (maybe years) to find it. That cassette\u00a0tape may be filed away, but you can still get Chuck&#8217;s music through BSX Records <a href=\"http:\/\/buysoundtrax.stores.yahoo.net\/cinfilmusofc.html\">http:\/\/buysoundtrax.stores.yahoo.net\/cinfilmusofc.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>By the way, Chuck\u2019s production office is in a completely rebuilt Galleria\u2026Sherman Oaks Galleria\u2026..the mall the movie was filmed IN, and Chuck jokes about hearing the ghost of the alive B movie legend Dick Miller sweeping up the halls.<\/p>\n<p>CHOPPING MALL was a huge inspiration for Chuck to score many more films after. \u00a0He told us, \u201cWhat surprised me most about scoring CHOPPING MALL was the fact I discovered I could actually write music for a feature film. This was my first score. I know my IMDB says it way GYPSY ANGELS&#8230; but it wasn&#8217;t. I was directing and editing TV commercials for The Federated Group in LA when Jim approached me. Doing the gig for him was kind of a lark too. I already had a really fun job directing and editing TV commercials for The Federated Group with Shadoe Stevens. But once I experienced the &#8216;film music writing&#8217; bug it was off to the keyboard for a long, long time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/?attachment_id=7980\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-7980\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7980\" alt=\"km_12\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/km_12-300x228.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/km_12-300x228.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bmovienation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/km_12.jpg 304w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Near the end of the film, hats off to Kelli Maroney for her bravery to allow live tarantulas and snakes to crawl on her while hiding from a KILLBOT.\u00a0 Originally, scorpions were supposed to be in the mix.\u00a0 That may have been a bit too much though. Possibly not even Jim would have been able to handle the scorpions himself, so he saved Kelli by eliminating the scorpions. \u00a0In that same scene, as Alison (Kelli) was leaving the pet shop a screeching cat leaps past her.
