Killer Tomatoes Strike Back-Screening

When Good Vegetables Go Bad” is the tag line for the third movie in a series of four films on killer tomatoes. The 1991 horror-comedy “B” movie “Killer Tomatoes Strike Back” is scheduled to be screened at the Ware Center, on Sunday, June 29that 7 PM. A special feature of the showing is the film’s star Crystal Carson will be in attendance to do a Q&A and meet and greet audience members at a Virgin Bloody Mary Cocktail Reception after the film.

If you are expecting an all-out horror movie, you would be wrong. This film, scripted by the film’s other star and award-winning comedian Rick Rockwell, has been dubbed an action-comedy. Although the 87 minute film is not rated, it is not likely to scare even the youngest of children.

But be prepared to have a ball laughing at a really bad film – in keeping with the other films in the series. It rated 3.2 out of ten on the imdb.com movie scale. Judge Patrick Naugle, who reviews films for DVDDirect.com says about this film, “I don’t think the end of civilization as we know it is coming with the arrival of movies like “Killer Tomatoes Strike Back.” Hell, in a world where hurricanes are ripping away our country, corruption is rampant in Congress, and terrorists threaten our freedom and safety, we need silly movies like this to take our minds off of life’s woes.”

The plot line is as simple as it is stupid – Dashing Lance Boyle, played by Rick Rockwell, along with tomatologist Kennedi Johnson (Carson) investigate rumors about attacks by Killer Tomatoes. They learn that Professor Mortimer Gangrene, played by “Adams Family” star John Astin, plans to use TV talk shows to brainwash the human race, thus, of course, taking over the world! The big questions are: will the professor succeed and will Johnson end up a bloody mary mix.

Crystal Carson – who also happens to be the sister of Laura Kendall, who is now the Ware Center’s Director — was born in Spaulding, Nebraska, USA as Crystal Rudloff. She had recurring roles on “Who’s That Girl,” CBS’s award winning show, “Jag,”appeared for 8 weeks on the mega-hit “Dallas” and had guest starring roles on “Ellen,” “Cheers,” “Charles In Charge,” “MidnightCaller,” “Thirtysomething,” “Simon & Simon” and “Night Court” to name a few. Carson is best known for playing Julia Barrett for five years on “General Hospital”, when she was voted “Best New Female” by Soap Opera Digest and put on their cover as one of “Television’s Most Beautiful Women.”

For the last 20 years, Carson has been teaching and coaching professionally in Los Angeles. As an on-set coach, she was recently employed by FOX-TV for a full season of the crime procedural “The Inside”, focusing primarily on lead actress Rachel Nichols. Carson also coaches privately in Los Angeles. Her clients have included Paula Abdul, Samaire Armstrong (“The Mentalist” “Dirty Sexy Money”), Jennifer Beals (“Mob Doctor,” “The Chicago Code” & L Word), David Boreanaz (“Bones,” “Angel” and “Buffy”), Brittany Daniel (“The Game”), Ethan Embry (“The Frontier” “Fairly Legal”), Tricia Helfer (“Killer Women” “Battlestar Galactica”), Desi Lydic (“The Client List” “Awkward”), Sunny Mabrey (“Memphis Beat”), Rachel Nichols (“G.I. Joe” “Sisterhood of Traveling Pants 2”), Brenda Strong (“Dallas” “Desperate Housewives”), and Brian White (“Hostages,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Men of a Certain Age” and “Cabin in the Woods”) to name just a few.
