Shaking With The Rock

The big one hit AT&T Park Monday morning.Or at least that’s what it may have looked like to casual passersby as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was in town filming scenes for an upcoming big-budget earthquake movie, “San Andreas.” Twitter user @Absolut_pablito caught this scene of a car buried in rubble outside the Giants’ stadium, which may hit a little too close to home for some of us. According to IMDB, “San Andreas” will feature Johnson as a helicopter pilot who must traverse our seismologically vulnerable state to save his daughter in the aftermath of a massive earthquake.

Johnson, who co-stars with Alexandra Daddario and Kylie Minogue, shot some scenes in Fisherman’s Wharf and Russian Hill last week, amid some criticism from neighbors. But that shooting went off without a hitch, according to Lauren Machado, a spokeswoman for the San Francisco Film Commission, who said crews will be returning to the same location Tuesday near Lombard and Hayes streets along with more than 300 extras who will be filmed fleeing from quake-related chaos.

“Just the fact that they have 300 or more extras working is pretty incredible,” she said. “Seven full days of shooting with the first unit translates to a lot of local jobs and local spending.” The crew could return to Russian Hill Wednesday (if weather gets in the way of Tuesday’s shoot), but will likely be shooting on sound stages then and Thursday.

The Rock will be back on San Francisco streets for the weekend, though. On Saturday they’ll be shooting near Clay and Taylor street; and Sunday they’ll shooting mainly at 555 California Street.
