Alamo Drafthouse’s Summer of 82 Screens Vintage Sci-Fi, Action

Sci-fi and action movie fans fixated on the ’80s might want to relocate for the summer to Austin, Texas, where the Alamo Drafthouse will revive Blade Runner, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial and other blockbusters from 1982 on the same day as their original releases 30 years ago.

The nostalgia-inducing montage video above — made by Tommy Swenson and set to the tune of “Eye of the Tiger” (what else?) — powers through a formidable stream of big-budget gore, sci-fi and action spatter from that epic year.

“A generation of imaginations were set aflame, and there has never been another stretch of cinematic dynamite to match it,” said Alamo Drafthouse programmer Zack Carlson in a statement. “These movies endured beyond their opening weekend and decades later they’re forever tattooed on the hearts of movie fans across the globe.”

The Summer of 1982 slate, which begins May 18, will also include Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Conan the Barbarian, The Road Warrior, Poltergeist, The Thing, Rocky III and Tron.
