Cult Movie Mania

Cult movies live on, thanks to people like Andy Lalino, who began the popular “Cult Movie Mania Screaming Cinema Series” at the Tampa Pitcher Show.

The film series focuses on modern movies created to look like Cult B Movie Classics.

“It is fun to see how creative people get and try to make the movies look old,” explained Lalino.

Their May 4th series finale will include the real thing from storied B-Movie Director Ed Wood.

The 23-minute TV pilot is called “The Final Curtain.”

Lalino tries to explain how Ed Wood– the King of Cult — is the best of the worst Hollywood Directors.

“He doesn’t go out and actively mean to make, really mean to make, bad movies. His heart’s there. It is just when he actually executes them and puts it together it doesn’t exactly form it the way he expected, but that’s to the benefit to all of us because actually it’s the bad elements that make the movies so watchable.”

Created in 1957, this rarely seen piece caps off a night of short films and a live theatre.

Look for vignettes like “Meat Man” and “Date with a Cannibal.”

They are more funny than scary and gory.

“It’s meant to be a good time at the movies,” explained creator Jeff Strand, “and you don’t want it to be too gross because they do serve food here and you don’t want people throwing up.”
