B Movie Attack

If you’ve watched any local TV or listened to any radio in the last two years – you should know Berne Velasquez. He’s a tireless self-promoter – and now he’s been able to parlay his local celebrity into his..

It’s a B-Movie called Jurassic Attack, but Berne has made the A-list – and when Monica Bodden visited the set yesterday – he gave her a tour:..

Monica Bodden reporting
Its day three now – as the team of Hollywood producers get ready to shoot another scene for the film called Jurassic Attack.

Deep in the bushes of the rock quarry at mile 21 – cast members move swiftly into position – It was lights, camera and then action, holding an AR-15 riffle -weighing 6lbs and dressed fully in comaflauge gear- Belize’s very own Berne Valasquez plays one of the leading roles of a military guy named Tank.

Berne Velasquez – Actor
“Jurassic Attack is like the biggest job I’ve ever gotten, the biggest movie that ever came to Belize. Pretty much for me, it’s a great opportunity. I am just embracing it well, I am playing the role of Tank, and he is like this real super tough guy commanding an army. I am just here grateful doing what I do best.”

Marion Ali, LOVE NEWS
“I see sporting with a big firearm here.”

Berne Velasquez – Actor
“Yes, this is actually to protect us from a lot of the crazy animals that are out here in the jungle. We are kind of lost in a crater at this moment in the scene that we are doing and there are like dinosaurs and all kinds of animals like the huge T-Rex and all these other animals that are around. We are just being properly protected.”

And even though dinosaurs probably never walked on Belizean soil – one thing we know is, they are alive at Gracie Rock – at least in the Hollywood world.

Berne Velasquez – Actor
“The movie Jurassic Attack is about a group of men who pretty much are trying to save this girl and the girl got kidnapped by Marques who is this real serious military guy. As we go to try to save this girl from Marques we ended up lost in the jungle. The plane ended up crashing in the middle of the jungle and that where we ended up trying to save Angelis and me being Tank. mister bad guy, you know how I do it.”

The team will be in Belize for the next 13 days. They will be shooting in different locations across the country.

Frank Hauser – Co-Producer
“We’ve been here now for three days, today is day three of plenty as I like to say, but we are loving it, we are loving the heat. We are loving this, we wanted a little bit of rain to come, but we are just having a great time here in Belize. We shoot here several times and every time we walk away satisfied.”

Marion Ali, LOVE NEWS
“I haven’t heard of dinosaurs back in the Jurassic era living in Belize. Why did you chose Belize for this?”

Frank Hauser – Co-Producer
“People ask me why Belize, but look around here, it’s beautiful. It’s a wild jungle and I look at it and say why not. Why not have a dinosaur just come out of this jungle and rip my heart out. Of any place, why not Belize. I’ll take Belize over any other country in the world. Give it to me, its dinosaur land.”

And for this producer, he described the film as a must see that will take you on an adventure to wow your wildest imagination.

Frank Hauser – Co-Producer
“People might look at this as just an action film but I like to think of it as a think piece and actually a psychological thriller. You heard of Jurassic Park, this is Jurassic Attack. It’s not a walk in the park. It’s like Inception times 10, reverse it and flip it around again and that’s what you have. This is going to mess your mind up. Don’t go do drugs before you come to watch this film because you are already going to be in a world of hurt. Jurassic Attack – I see this as a gold mine, like we are already mining a few nuggets here and there. You got nuggets the size of your face and it’s going to be coming out of the ground because once they find out how exciting this is here; people will be coming from all over the world.”

“They are already coming from all over the world, but you get this out on the mainstream and they’re like Belize – I never heard of it, I’m coming there for my vacation and they are going to spend two weeks and that means money in your pockets. It’s going to help the economy and its going to boost you guys up. You can look at Guatemala and you’ll be like ‘get out of my face.'”
