#Hold Your Breath

After seeing ‘2 Headed Shark Attack’ on the big screen at B Movie Celebration this year I was really looking forward to ‘#Hold Your Breath’ because it’s the Asylum’s first theatrical release.  Directed by Jared Cohn and starring Katrina Bowden from ‘Dale and Tucker vs. Evil’.

I made sure to get to the theater almost an hour early to get a good seat….and get out of putting my kids to bed.

When the credits began I personally was honored to see so many familiar names, Jared Cohn, Darin Cooper, Gerald Webb, and the master of eye gore Valerie Garcia with the help from Eric Scott Wilson.  The opening execution scene was pretty intense and being in a theatre with the cranking sound effects just added to the excitement.

Seth Cassell from many comedies makes his debut in a horror film and he did well and his comments and freak outs had the audience laughing especially his explosive scream “What the F’ are you talking about?”   Plus the drugs make him do bad things like kill a cop…well being possessed probably contributed to that to.  The policeman was Gerald Webb and he definitely is the Kenny of ‘South Park’ for Asylum films.  “You killed Gerald, you bastard”.

It’s a horror film, it’s a B movie, it’s an Asylum movie therefore there’s a mandatory sex scene in an abandoned Asylum morgue.  While in the asylum we also see how Katrina Bowden‘s looks can be so persuasive.  I think for most guys her smile would convince them to strap themselves in an evil electric chair with the electrifying head piece on during a sudden electrical storm.  Even after the terror that was experienced we’re idiots and would do it again.

Most of the time the group don’t know what is really happening with the spirit body hopping until the ex guard from the asylum convinces them what is going on and helps them, or what’s left of their group.

The movie by far saved the best for last. You have to see it for yourself but the final fight scene with the evil spirit going from body to body was cool, sweet, dope, the bomb, tits (not really tits, just my 80’s slang word).  When the girls were out all fist fighting and girls beating up Johnny (Randy Wayne) and vice versa, it had the audience roaring.  I could watch that scene multiple times.

Overall ‘#Hold Your Breath’ was not a hack em up but there were quality kills and it was entertaining, suspenseful, good makeup effects and of course good looking cast.  Yes I know I’m typically biased but I asked a couple patrons sitting near me what they thought of the film.  The guys said it was fun and they loved the actresses and their girlfriends chimed in quickly saying which male character they liked the most. They chit chat about some kills too.  I told the guys since they liked the girls they should check out Jared Cohn’s ‘Bikini Spring Break’ which they made note of.  By the look their girlfriends gave them they will not be watching it.
