Marie Westbrook has been in several B movies including ‘Evil Angel’ with Ving Rhames, and multiple movies by the Asylum, “100 Million B.C.”, “Hillside Cannibals”, “Dracula’s Curse” and “Titanic II”. In addition to acting she has a Physics/Chemistry degree from Utah State University, was a physics teaching assistant, a laser beam operator, 8th grade science teacher, professional treadmill tester, Provo Pilsner Girl, starred in independent shorts and student films, does voice overs for video games, a space camp counselor and now has her own production company. I thank Marie taking time out of her incredibly busy schedule.
Since you’re last film ‘Titanic II’ you started up a production company. How’s that going and what are you currently working on?
MARIE: I started a small production company called ‘The Speculative’ with my longtime friend Marty Martin. We worked together on a few projects earlier in our careers and have a great dynamic, so decided to collaborate our abilities to bring our own concepts to the world. I’ve loved being on the other side of the camera, it combines my creative side with my down to business side. We recently finished a commercial for a video game and now are working on a very exciting project that is top secret until we are ready to release it. It’s a big undertaking but will definitely have an impact, we’re very excited about it!
It was your family who persuaded you to pursue modeling. Have they been supportive in all that you’ve accomplished and how?
MARIE: A family friend actually first brought that idea to me just after I graduated high school. I didn’t even really consider it at first, as that was never something I thought was a possibility being from a small town in Idaho. My family ended up giving me the final push and support to go for it. They are my biggest fans and I don’t know how long I would have lasted without their support. As you can see, I’ve dabbled in many different things and they’ve always rooted me along whatever path I’m on.
I read that you enjoy writing and wrote some treatments. Is there any chance your production company will make any screenplays of yours?
MARIE: I’m currently working on something with a writing partner. We have a few ideas of where we want to take it but its definitely a possibility that my company will work on something I’ve created in the future, if not this project.
I enjoyed all the videos on your website especially your voice for the character ‘Sergeant Jaxo’. How did you get into voiceovers and will there be more in the near future?
MARIE: When I lived in Seattle, my theatrical agent had me audition for a vo job for Nintendo. I really didn’t know what I was doing but ended up booking it, which was a huge surprise! The role of Sergeant Jaxo in ‘Star Wars: The Old Republic’ was my third vo audition ever, not too long after I moved to Los Angeles. I was elated that I booked it! It ended up being three years of work before the game was released, and I enjoyed every minute of it! The voice director, Will Beckman, is very accomplished and made the experience even more amazing. I absolutely love being the voice of Seargent Jaxo and doing voice work in general. I’ve worked on quite a few vo projects since then and certainly hope there will be a lot more to come!
Shane Van Dyke appears like a fun talented person to work with. How was the experience working with him on ‘Titanic II’?
MARIE: Shane is so talented, first of all. He has a lot more to show than what we’ve seen of him so far. I loved working with him! He has such a unique sense of humor and had me laughing between pretty much every take! It was difficult to compose myself sometimes before it was time to be back on.
