The Cheetah Whores – Sharktopus theme music

I love theme music and when you watch ‘Sharktopus’ and the theme song begins your excitement for the movie elevates and you may even cheer on the Sharktopus.  If I enjoy a song that much I need to find more from the band.  So I did.  I’d like to introduce you to my favorite whores.  Lizzy O, Joey Pitts, Therese O, Meg Austin, and Gary Archer who make up the rocking fun mayhem band ‘The Cheetah Whores’.

‘The Cheetah Whores’ formed in 2006 in Rochester NY with Meg, Joey and Liz.  Therese, (Liz’s sister) soon learned how to play the lap steel and then they had a four female band until Shalonda Simpson joined and ready to crank on her bass.   The band was struck with a horrific senseless crime that took the life of Shalonda in August of 2007.  Trying to recover from a tragedy like that is very difficult, but they used that energy and incorporated it into their music and it proved to work quite well.  I thank Liz for taking the time to share with us a few things about the band.

Regarding the theme music for ‘Sharktopus’ how did this opportunity come about?
LIZ: I am a big fan of B-Horror Movies and Roger Corman (love Buckets of Blood). We received the opportunity through Therese and my uncle Declan O’Brien a well-known producer in his own right with many movie and television accreditations. We are featured on the Movie Soundtrack of Wrong Turn 4 and Wrong Turn 5 (which will be released by 20th Century Fox on October 23, 2012. –plug for our new single “Formaldehyde” off our soon to be released sophomore album Whore Amore.

Note: IMDB lists the Cheetah Whores performing the ‘Piranhaconda’ theme music.  However Liz said they did not perform Piranhaconda and it was an internet rumor that they did not start nor know the origin so be aware of cheating Whores out there.

Prior to forming ‘The Cheetah Whores’ what did you do in the music business?
LIZ: Therese and I come from a very musical family. All of our band members were in bands previously to the Cheetah Whores and accomplished recording musicians before the inception of the Cheetah Whore project.

Words can’t describe the senseless tragedy to Shalonda, it’s incredible how you say you incorporated the energy into the band. Can you tell us more about that process?
LIZ: Musicians can only be effective writers and performers when you pose the question to your audience “Can you relate to this, can we survive this shit?” I think our fans (as few and far between as they maybe) want to sing along and have a favorite Cheetah Whores song and be part of the energy we project. Sholanda had a commanding stage presence and I believe Cheetah Whores keep her alive through our songs and performance.

Okay you guys are insanely fun to watch and listen too, there must be some craziness at your concerts, what was the most bizarre thing that happened at one of your shows?

LIZ: Soooooooooo many bizarre and funny moments. We have had many a guest musician leave stage without finishing the set or even a song. We have had so many guest musicians, tambourine shakers, and backup singers join us on stage it looked like a clown car. Cheetah Whores have incited riots during concerts or at least the fans have. I really do not know what that’s about but crash symbols have rolled off the stage and mic stands have flown across the room. I believe the most bizarre was Shondoor the tranny go-go dancer. Although he only appeared at one show it was quite memorable. Especially for my mother as she received an unsolicited personal lap dance that fateful night.

In regards to existing and new music Liz shared the following accreditations:
11 track Debut CD Bang Bang Baby released October 2010.
*Released September 2010 with the Single Sharktopus and Hot Rod Hell Kitten for the Roger Corman Film SHARKTOPUS, a SyFy Channel Original Movie.

July 2012 -Just Released – the Single ‘Formaldehyde’ – the lead track off Whore Amore, and to be featured in 20th Century Fox’s Wrong Turn 5 – due in theaters this Fall.
