Steve Austin’s acting career continues to go from strength to strength, with the star having just finalized a new deal with Anchor Bay Films.

Movie news site Deadline exclusively reports that Austin, and his film company, Broken Skull Ranch Productions, recently signed a deal with Anchor Bay Films to star in, and produce, two upcoming action movies.

Deadline went on to provide the details of the first film:

First up is the evocatively-named Kill Em All, John, starring Austin as an ex-hitman pulled back into the underworld to “retire” a number of crime bosses as the clock ticks. Filming is set to begin this summer. Stunt veteran turned action director Jesse V. Johnson (who directed Austin and Dolph Lundgren in this month’s The Package) will direct from a script by Umair Aleem with Adam Marshall executive producing.

While Austin hasn’t quite emulated the success of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in Hollywood, the former WWE champion has, nonetheless, carved out an impressive acting resume since he retired from wrestling in 2003.

Most wrestlers that attempt to break in to Hollywood may snag the occasional supporting role here and there, but it’s often a struggle for them to pick up regular acting work. Joanie “Chyna” Laurer and Rena “Sable” Lesnar are just two names who attempted to find Hollywood stardom after their WWE stints, with limited success.

Austin, meanwhile, has been working non-stop the last few years, starring in a wide range of theatrical and straight-to-DVD features. This is likely due to his notoriety from being one of wrestling’s biggest ever stars and his (shockingly decent) acting ability.

Oh, his movies will never win any Oscars or anything like that. They’re disposable action-packed B films aimed mainly toward the young male crowd. Truth be told, sans The Expendables, Austin hasn’t really been in a genuinely memorable and good movie.
