Eli Roth’s Hemlock Grove Only On Netflix

You gotta hand it to Netflix — their major foray into original programming is leaving no stone unturned. Last month we got the political drama “House Of Cards,” and later this spring the Bluths return in the long-awaited “Arrested Development,” but sandwiched in between, the streaming company is hoping to lure horror fans with another piece of unique programming: the Eli Roth-produced “Hemlock Grove.” And a new trailer is here teasing sex, monsters and all sorts of hair-raising drama.

Based on the novel by Brian McCreevy, the show stars Famke Janssen, Lili Taylor, Dougray Scott, Landon Liboiron and Bill Skarsgard, and tells the tale of Peter Rumancek, a gypsy and rumored werewolf who comes to the Pennsylvania steel town of Hemlock Grove around the same time that a young girl is viciously murdered. Roman Godfrey, a member of the influential Godfrey clan that practically runs the town, becomes Peter’s chief adversary and eventual ally as they try to figure out who was responsible for the murder(s).

This brand new trailer keeps the supernatural elements mostly hidden for now, but plays up the raw sexuality, and the tone definitely suggests something that isn’t hiding its B-movie instincts at all. It looks a bit soapy, and maybe even over the top, but that seems to be the vibe it’s going for, and it’s certainly something of a different side for Roth whose forays into horror thus far have tended to be pretty direct and unsubtle.

All 13 episodes of the first season will drop on Netflix on April 19th. Get a taste below along with the new poster.
