There is a high probability that if you attend fan conventions you have encountered Ron Mackay and Cathy Mackay. Ron is the convention manager for Troma, and most weekends he and his genial bride Cathy jumps into this car and like a twisted Mr. and Mrs. Claus bring basket of Troma goodies and swag to convention all across North America. This is not mission for financial compensation, often his costs are barely covered , Ron and his lovely wife Cathy have a deep passion for the people who populate these conventions. In many ways the Mackay’s have become the parental figures for a generation of fandom.

They bring a profound respect to genre cinema, a wise objectivity that cannot really be equaled. While hawking copies of the Toxic Avenger and Sgt.Kabukiman, they inject compassion and kindness into the often crass world of the convention. The Troma booth has in the eight years Ron and Cathy have become the heart of most events. A ready smile, great and engaged conversation and most importantly love for where they are and for the people they encounter. I have had the pleasure for working with these two for the past seven years. Every year when a car pulls up plastered with Troma bumper stickers I know I will have a good time. Good deep conversations will be the rule of the day, and even though we may not have seen one another for a year, there is a familiarity that you would have with a very good neighbor.
