Calgary Comic Expo announces first star: Cult king Bruce Campbell

It’s still five months away, but the good folks at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo have already begun building excitement with the announcement this week of their first guest.

Actor, writer, producer Bruce Campbell, perhaps best known for Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead series, will be attending the April 24 to 27 event at Stampede Park. Among cult-film aficionados, Campbell is royalty. Not only has he starred in such notable no-budget classics as Maniac Cop (and Maniac Cop 2), Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat and Bubba Ho-Tep (where he played Elvis), he also had cameos in such Coen Brothers movies such as Fargo and the Hudsucker Proxy. He has also parodied his less-than A-list status by starring in and directing the horror-comedy My Name is Bruce and in the book, If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B-Movie Actor.
